Life's Collage

I cannot think of any single thing that has happened lately that is worth of its own post.  So here are some snippets of life.

Sabrina with a cut out mustache from her Valentine's loot from school.

Here the girls were playing with the self-portrait setting on my phone:

All three girls got to attend a birthday party recently and came home with some really fun homemade playdoh.  It smelled lovely (made using kool aid powder) and even had glitter in it!  Here is a pair of birds nests complete with eggs and worms.

This one is a sunflower.  A very happy sunflower :)

Sabrina and her cousin Joey playing games on Daddy's iPad at a family birthday party.  Oh to be young enough to share a recliner with your cousin with room to spare!

This is a fabulous dish I discovered: Pavlova.  It's similar to meringues but with a bit of cornstarch added so the outside is crisp but the inside is marshmallow-y.  It was incredible served with lightly sweetened whipped cream and fresh sliced strawberries.

One morning recently I got up and made my usual rounds: wake up Lizzie, close Sabrina's door so she will sleep a little longer, then go downstairs and wake Kate.  This particular morning I found Sabrina's room empty, so I double checked my bed and found she had slipped into Daddy's side after he had left early in the morning.  Somehow she got herself upside down though -- head under the blankets with her chilly little legs poking out by the pillow!

I though I'd try an idea I read this week.  The idea is to fill a lidded vegi tray with prepared vegetables and keep it in the fridge.  I don't have a nicely divided lidded tray, so I thought I'd give it a shot with what I did have on hand: this holder that comfortably fits a 9x13 pan with extra room to spare.  It was packed full to the top!  I set these out after school and again at dinner time.  Within 2 days this is all that was left.  That's a lot of good fresh vegis!!!  I do keep the carrots in a separate bag so they don't "contaminate" the other vegis ;)  Today (4 days after filling this tray) there is half a bag of carrots, half-dozen celery sticks, and a handful of broccoli florettes left.  This is a plan to keep up!  The cucumber spears do go bad a lot faster than the other things (there were two left this morning and they had gone mushy.).  For this reason I intend to keep an eye out for a good segregated container so if something turns before the rest it doesn't make it all gross.  Next up: try out the recipe for a good looking low-fat ranch dip I found.

That pretty much wraps it up!  I have our kefir going again and we're enjoying smoothies made with fresh kefir and frozen bananas and berries.  I even have made a couple of batches of homemade bread.  I intend to make some with part of the flour replaced with fresh ground wheat flour.  Looking at the vegi tray, kefir smoothies, and bread including whole wheat I feel downright healthy! ;)

Basketball

The elementary school choir (including Kate) performed the national anthem at a college basketball game.  I managed to go as a chaperone.  The kids sang wonderfully, the game was fun, the right team won, and I even managed to catch a ball for Kate.  The game lasted this long:

Valentine's Celebration

Last night we celebrated love in the most rational manner: with chocolate.  We ate pieces of fruit dipped in chocolate after dinner and had a really relaxing evening.  this is Kate's artfully arranged dipping plate.

This morning for breakfast I even made pink heart shaped chocolate-chip pancakes :-)

From Sabrina

Sabrina is VERY into writing little notes and cards lately and they're just so dang CUTE!  I figured I'd better post this one in case she every tries to deny it later in life ;-)

("I will love you forever")

I love you too, Sabrina!

Worth It

Sabrina tucked this little tiger in on my pillow with a note she wrote all by herself which translates to "I love you for all of your Valentines".  All those cheesy, terribly punny Valentines I've been doing through the month have meant something!  I declare the punny Valentines cards to be absolutely worth it.  Now I'm going to cuddle up with the bitty tiger and go to bed.  :-)

(sorry the picture turned sideways. I'll try to figure it out later.)

Athletics

City Deals just did a great discount on the "Pass of all Passes" and we were able to get an incredible deal for a year of passes to Trafalga and Seven Peaks (among some other places) and went to check out the Trafalga we haven't been to before last night.  It was kinda late so we didn't stay forever.  The girls got to do some climbing on the rock wall, then we played a round of mini-golf.

It's a pretty impressively tall climbing wall and all three of them made it all the way to the top at least once!  Sabrina is light enough that the line retracted very easily so she could pull herself up with just her two arms, lol.  She usually used her arms *and* legs, but it was funny to see her pull herself higher a few times just with her little arms.

of course, she is also light enough that she had to have a line tied to her so the guy in charge could pull her back down again :).

The mini-golf was on a black light course.  It made a fascinating experience.

The other day I believe I posted a picture of the latest lost tooth of Sabrina's.  In our house the Tooth Fairy has to be called so she'll come.  I have forgotten to "call her" so Lizzie and Sabrina wrote a reminder note for me on the fridge.  Also -- the tooth fairy brings little prizes or gifts instead of money, so "calling" her really requires a trip to the store.  I really need to do that this afternoon!

Translation:
"Call tooth fairy
tonight or right now
seriously!"

Lizzie wrote the first line, but Sabrina wrote the other two.

Niagara falls

Oops!  I meant to post this to the cats' blog!  If you're amused by the silly things our kitties do, then feel free to follow them over on "All Places are Alike".  The blog name comes from Rudyard Kipling's "The Cat Who Walked by Himself".

allplacesarealike.blogspot.com

Yesterday, for the first time since we got the Kitties I started up the water feature in our entryway.  There is a half flight of stairs going up and half flight going down.  This waterfall is above the stairs. I was concerned about the Kitties trying to jump onto the waterfall to taste the water.

So far they have left it alone, but they sure do like to watch it!

I fully expect to see one of them (most likely Ginger) perched on it getting a drink some day.  Never mind that they have a kitty drinking fountain no more than 10 feet away.

Traffic laws

Daddy explaining right of way laws to the girls cause he's sick of people doing it wrong at the 4 way stop down the road.

Valentines, day...4?

I meant to do these over the weekend too, but I didn't.  Oops.  But here is today's love note!

Toothless

Last night Sabrina managed to pull another tooth out.  I really wonder how much longer teeth would stay in if kids weren't so anxious for an excuse to get out of bed.

Ridiculous things that make me ridiculously happy.

I'm not talking about deep things like world peace or important things like my family.  I'm talking about the little mundane things that cost just a couple of dollars but make me very happy.

I discovered these hair bands recently.  They're rubbery and feel more like a gasket than a standard hairband.
My hair is thick.  Really thick.  With a normal hair band I can easily get it around two times, but then the band would slide out in no time.  I can usually force it around a third time, but it's hard.  Then the hair band stays in decently well, but after just one or two uses the band is so badly stretched out it has to go in the garbage.
I got these over a week ago and I'm still using the same hair band (at least once a day).  It is still the same size as the new ones, stretches so far it wraps around three times easily, and the rubbery texture helps keep it from slipping.
Silly, sure, but I love these!!!
(I found this package of 14 at WalMart for just over $3)

I've been fighting dementors lately, and chocolate has been most helpful.  Michael picked me up this package of cookies.  They're SO yummy!  Since they're dark chocolate they're quite rich.  This is great because it means that two cookies is plenty to feel satisfied and well chocolated.
These taste like "zero-stuff" oreos.  They're dark and crunchy like the cookie part of the oreos, but without the sugar-and-shortening stuck in the middle.  They do require a glass of milk, but they're delicious!

So here I am, with my hair in a comfortable ponytail, tasting a Fudge Stripe Dark Chocolate cookie.  Life is good!  Enjoy the little things, right?  What "silly" things do you love?

Moving

I'm going to try posting this for the billionth time.  I gave up on the app I was using and installed a different one.  So far, so good.  *fingers crossed*.

The girls got to trade bedrooms.  kate moved downstairs, Lizzie is keeping the room she has been in for herself, and Sabrina moved to the mural bedroom.

There is still quite a lot of work to be done; but bedtime has been a little easier.

Kate is sleeping under a heap of pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals.  Good luck finding her in this picture!
