End of the School Year

Mother's Day Tea in kindergarten.  The kids sang and read and gave each mother a decorated bag with a growing marigold plant.  Then we ate strawberries and brownies.

Fourth Grade Store.  To end an economics unit the entire fourth grade set up a mini-mall.  They each earned "money" through the last semester that would be used at the store.  They then had to purchase a business license, prepare advertising and marketing, and finally they came and set up shop.  Sabrina came to be an assistant at Kate and her friend Kaitlyn's craft shop.  The girls paid Sabrina $5.  They had bookmarks, decorated magnets, bits of ribbon, and most popular: bottlecap necklaces.  One boy showed me all seven he had bought!

Author's Day: At the end of the school year the kids get a chance to share the portfolios they have created through the year with a parent (or other available helper).  Kate and Lizzie both wrote many of their stories about the kitties Ginger and Sierra.

The last week of school started off with a splash!  Field Day was a lot of fun.  I was a parent helper again so Sabrina got to come play too.  The day was interrupted by rushing Sierra to the vet (long story short, she injured her foot, but it healed nicely and she's fine now), but it was great overall.  The last few minutes found Lizzie and Sabrina each sitting waist deep in buckets of water.

Every day of the last week of school had a theme that the kids could dress up for.  The tigers are from Extreme Tiger Pride day.  Hat or Wig day was a lot of fun too.  Field day was called Beach Day.

You'd think that the last day of school the kids would come in excited and happy, right?  Well not these kids, lol.  Lizzie came in with a huge mopey frown on her face because school was over.  Kate has super wide, shocked eyes as she was thinking of being in FIFTH grade next year.  That said, they are enjoying the summer.  But I'm not sad that they enjoy school!

Let's just skip the apologies and get on to the pictures!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm behind.   Enjoy the photos:

Kate at the all-city 4th grade Hershey Track Meet:

Sabrina and I went and stayed through most of the meet.  We saw Kate do all her events.

Sabrina slathered on a new layer of sun block every time she was feeling too hot (much of the time.  It was a toasty sort of day).  Kate had a groupie who followed her everywhere.  Sabrina had fun rolling down the short hills with him while waiting for Kate to finish her standing long-jump.

Kate's long jump distance (which I don't recall right now) was longer than she is tall!  I am particularly fond of this bizarre pose she flashed while setting off in the 100 meter semi-finals.

She came in 5th in her heat (of 6) but she had a great time.  Can you see the grin on her face?!

Sabrina got to perform in kindergarten plays from her class.  You may be able to tell she is a penguin.  She was rather hyper and didn't focus like she usually does, but she loved doing it.

I absolutely love our "little" city library.  It used to be little.  Very little.  But several months ago our new library opened (which I know i've mentioned here before) and we LOVE it!  This was an activity I took the girls to.  It was a class for children about reading music!  See how BIG the room is?  Before the move all activities were shoved into the little slip of breathing room in the children's book section, or in an under-construction classroom-type room in the city hall area of the old building.  This new one has good spaces for all sorts of classes and activities without interrupting normal library-type quietude.
